Notes

Two Sub-Workstreams of 5.2

  1. Applying ANF to clinical narratives for health factors

  2. Quality Assurance of terminology like SNOMED and LOINC

ANF in Clinical Narratives

  • Need to define what a chunk is and how it can be used

  • All of our work should be use-case driven i.e. ultimately tailored for the end-user

Quality Assurance

  • Technical Debt: the amount of time and effort needed to fix a problem

  • Intermediate Primitive: A concept that is not fully defined, but has parents and children that are fully defined

    • Intermediate primitives are an indicator of a problem in the logical classification structure

    • They can block classification of concepts lower in the hierarchy

  • SNOMED has intermediate primitives that require a certain level of technical debt to resolve

    • This is an example of a problem that can be addressed with quality assurance processes

  • Quality Assurance Process:

    • Define problematic pattern

    • Identify qualifying concepts that meet definition

    • Evaluate whether qualifying concepts are false positives

    • Calculate amount of hours and minutes required to resolve problematic concepts

Action items

  •  Jack and Adeolu to insert rationales for entries in ANF templates
  •  Everest to create blank template (keeping definition column)
