Objectives for the Working Meeting
The first CIIC meeting took place on July 13, 2017 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Objectives included:
- Identifying current challenges because of the lack of common clinical data model,
- Outlining an approach for addressing these challenges, and
- Exploring interest – especially from the professional medical societies – in moving concept into reality.
The interest of the participants to move forward was unanimous.
The objective of the January 10-12, 2018 meeting in Salt Lake City is to identify projects that can immediately be undertaken, specify and prioritize technical requirements, and solidify the commitment of leaders to help drive the initiative forward.
This will be very much a working meeting. Your active participation is not only encouraged, but crucial. For a large portion of the 2½ days, participants will work in three breakout groups with specific deliverables. These are topics that we’ve heard are most important for starting CIIC’s challenging work in a manner that maximizes the probability of success:
First Projects Breakout Group. Deliverables:
- Develop principles and criteria for identifying CIIC’s first projects
- Identify up to three new or existing projects that can partner with CIIC soon after this meeting
- Develop a plan for engagement and action
Technical Capabilities Breakout Group Deliverables:
- Identify highest-priority technical capabilities (e.g., modeling approach, tooling, training, etc.) required to support the CIIC work
- Develop principles and criteria for selecting the preferred technologies and approaches for each capability
- Identify multiple existing resources that could be considered as candidates for each capability
- Develop a charter for the CIIC Technical Work Group to support and oversee the final selection of necessary capabilities and any new development needed to make the options fit for purpose
Marketing Breakout Group Deliverables:
- Develop stories that demonstrate the value of the work that CIIC is undertaking
- Identify the highest-priority marketing projects to be completed in the next six months
- Develop a charter for the CIIC Marketing Work Group to support and oversee initial marketing projects and plan for the future
