  • A CDS system for pharmacy subscribes to those topics utilized by its rule base, including prescriptions, allergies, and diagnoses. The service does not subscribe to insurance or psychiatric topics as none of the rules in its knowledge base involve these fact types. When new clinical data is published, the CDS system receives pushed notification, resulting in timely analysis and alert generation.
  • The Information Technology department wishes to insure that postings to public topics of interest conform to content guidelines, are virus free, and are appropriately cataloged. The department configures its EPS system to filter and quality check all inbound data published by its content producers.

  • A hospital Emergency Response Coordination system publishes granular casualty case information including clinical acuity, injury type, and prognosis to Federal subscribers (e.g., FEMA). The system uses content intervention to ensure that all patient sensitive health information is appropriately redacted before subscribers receive their topic feeds.

  • A patient scheduling system consumes a consult request topic and automatically provides available time slots for a booking clerk to adjudicate. Appointment availability is brokered/negotiated according to patient category (e.g., in-plan beneficiaries receive priority access over out-of-plan patient).

  • A local hospital would like to incorporate a section of the CDC’s educational topics with their own local topic tree. In order to accomplish this, they establish a federated subscription with the CDC EPS.
