Project Summary/Scope:

Currently the majority of clinical information systems are not based on standards enabling semantic interoperability; rather, they are based on highly variable user preferences for content and both explicit and implicit models of clinical domains. The proposed solution is to develop CIMI logical models bound to standard terminologies. The models need to be recognized by domain experts as fit-for-purpose for their use case. This work will be a pilot project, using skin assessment and wound evaluation modeling work done by national nurses. This work is published on the FHIM website (www.fhim.org) and is part of the HL7 Skin Risk assessment. 

Define clinical requirements and processes to create a set of Clinical Element and CIMI models with appropriate terminology bindings. The content scope will initially draw from the skin and wound assessment models, will be reviewed with domain experts and augmented as needed. The CEMs will be transformed to CIM models and may require the creation of high level CIMI patterns (e.g. assessment instruments) before the clinical statements can be created.

Fast Health Interoperability (FHIR) resources will be created for the models identified during the project.
