COVID-19 Age at Death Reference Set

Use Case(s)

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), tracks provisional coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mortality data, including the age of death. This information can be used for research purposes, such as understanding risk of mortality from the disease and potentially treatments as well. Purpose of Refset

The purpose of this reference set is to document the age at which a person has died from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). References LOINC code 39016-1 Age at death and SNOMED observable entity concept 6061000205104 Age at time of death (observable entity).

Examples of what to include

CDC NCHS identified age ranges such as:

  • Under 1 year

  • 25–34 years

  • 85 years and over

Examples of what to exclude

 

Zero or one OR Zero or more

Zero or one: Either no values or only one value can be selected from the refset

Editorial Guidelines

SNOMED CT does not have pre-existing concepts to represent the CDC NCHS Table 2 identified age ranges. Therefore, new concepts will need to be created as subtypes of 105726004 |Age AND/OR growth finding (finding)| and then added to the refset.
